Art + Science at WiSciFest
Why art and science?
The Wisconsin Science Festival was founded on the notion that art and science go hand-in-hand. During the week of the festival, and year-round, we celebrate the powerful intersection of art and science, two fields that, when combined, spark creativity, innovation, and discovery. Art and science are often seen as separate disciplines, but they share a deep connection in their pursuit of exploration, expression, and understanding. From the intricate patterns of nature to the imaginative visualization of scientific concepts, both fields inspire one another. By blending artistic vision with scientific inquiry, we open new doors for learning and problem-solving, enriching our lives and expanding our understanding of the world around us. The festival highlights this coexistence, offering an immersive experience where creativity and curiosity come together to inspire the next generation of thinkers and makers.
Big Ideas for Busy People
First launched in 2014, Big Ideas for Busy People aims to bring bite-sized science to a general audience. These events span an array of topics and aim to fuse the arts with the science throughout the evening.
During the 2024 festival, we partnered with the UW-Madison Division of the Arts to incorporate live dance performances and the fiddle to cue “time’s up!” for our presenters. With 4 scientists, 2 performances, 1 fiddle player, and 1 wonderful emcee, Big Ideas for Busy People: Fields of Wonder brought a night of intrigue and curiosity to the Majestic Theatre in Madison.
