Get a hands-on look at objects related to Wisconsin’s science history and explore the history of food and eating in The Flavor of Wisconsin exhibition. Stand in a replica of a 1,000-year-old house and visit a fur trade post. Walk into a lead mine and climb up in a tractor cab. Explore the stories, ideas, attitudes, work and recreation that make our rich history. Located on Madison’s Capitol Square, the museum will also feature several presentations by scientists and other experts throughout the evening.

5 p.m.: Missing In Action Recovery & Identification Project
In this talk, a team of three will tell its story of recovering the wreckage at the crash site — and the remains of first lieutenant Frank Fazekas — long after his P-47 Thunderbolt plane fell from formation over northern France during World War II, a little more than a week before the D-day invasion in 1944.

6 p.m.: Fish and Chips: Fish and Potatoes Are a Winning Friday Night Combination in Wisconsin
Join experts from UW Sea Grant and UW–Madison’s department of horticulture to learn more about what you have been eating on Friday nights in Wisconsin for years, the Wisconsin Fish Fry.

6:40 p.m.: Where Do Vegetables in the Supermarket Come From?
Meet one of the breeders: Molly Jahn is a plant breeder of different varieties of vegetables, some of which are regularly in supermarkets. Join her to learn about the vegetables you have to choose from at the supermarket.
* Add some butter to the veggies: An interactive buttermaking station staffed by the Wisconsin Historical Museum will be available right after Molly Jahn’s talk.

**This is also a Science on the Square location to earn your light-up bee antennae (while supplies last). Simply snap a picture with our mascot, Beesly, and tag #WiSciFest. Show the photo to the event staff at the Historical Museum to earn your antennae!
