Madison Gas and Electric (MGE) energy experts invite you to stop by their displays at the first-ever Science on the Square. MGE will have electric vehicles (EVs) and activities at the top of State Street, across from The Wisconsin Historical Museum. Learn about the technology behind EVs, check out MGE’s electric and gas safety demonstrations, and take home tips for saving energy. And be sure to spin MGE’s prize wheel to test your energy knowledge!

Some of the attractions and activities include:

  • MGE’s gas-detection UTV: MGE uses a Polaris Utility Vehicle (UTV) as a diagnostic tool to enter dwellings safely and check for natural gas. See MGE experts demonstrate how it works to keep customers and MGE crews safe.
  • Pedal Power Bicycle: MGE’s Pedal Power generator is hands-on – and legs-on – learning for kids! This one-of-a-kind bicycle shows how much human power it takes to produce electricity for a variety of things like incandescent bulbs, LED bulbs, fans, radios and more.
  • Electric vehicles: MGE will have its Chevy Bolt on display and EV experts available to answer your questions. Find out how battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in electric hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) differ and how they can reduce our impact on the environment.
  • Hazard Hamlet: Safe, reliable power is MGE’s top priority. MGE’s tabletop safety model illustrates and simulates potentially dangerous outdoor electric safety situations. Kids can learn what to avoid and how to react to different situations.

MGE is proud to support the Wisconsin Science Festival. See you at Science on the Square!
