Join the Wisconsin Science Festival and friends for an unforgettable night at the intersection of art and science. Hear flash talks from incredible scientists on an array of topics, enjoy dance performances supported by the UW-Madison Division of the Arts, take in the musical wonder of the fiddle, and get creative with crafts led by the Madison Children’s Museum Adult Swim team.

Emcee: Ben Rush, PhD, MPH As a scientist working with AI and big data to improve public health and radiology, Ben has a passion for communicating complex ideas and stories in creative and enjoyable ways. He is a storyteller and improviser, and regularly produces local shows that combine humor and science through his group Amalgam Improv.

Science Presenters:

  • Leah Elson – An entrepreneur at the nexus of science and education, Leah is also the founder of STEMpire Studios — a groundbreaking initiative aimed at making scientific knowledge accessible. She also serves as the host of the wildly popular “Reel Science”, and the podcast “What The Hell Do You Know?!”. Her debut literary work, There Are (No) Stupid Questions… In Science, has received widespread reader acclaim for its insightful yet accessible answers to some of the most intriguing scientific questions posed by the online community.
  • DJ LeClear DJ LeClear is the Senior Radiation Protection Specialist at SHINE Technologies. He has 16 years of experience in radiation protection and nuclear science, including Navy nuclear operations, X-Ray diffraction technology, radiological emergency preparedness, medical isotope production, and fusion operations support.
  • Ania Bialic – Researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison who is focused on exploring the world of parasites and the diseases that they cause. Alongside her research she is heavily involved in public engagement and science communication,  especially for neglected tropical diseases in the global south.
  • Izzy RossUW-Madison Strategic Communications Fall Science Journalist in Residence, Izzy Ross covers climate change in northern Michigan and the Great Lakes for Interlochen Public Radio and Grist. She previously worked as a reporter and news director at KDLG in Dillingham, Alaska, where she covered local news in Bristol Bay and led the annual Bristol Bay Fisheries Report.

Musical Interludes:

  • Daithi Wolfe – Daithi [DAH-hee] Wolfe has been playing violin/fiddle since the age of 4. Daithi is Irish for David.
    He currently plays in 3 local bands: Yid Vicious [klezmer], The Currach [Celtic], and Hoot ‘n Annie Stringband [Americana].
    When not fiddling around, Daithi has a day job at Kids Forward, an antiracist policy center, where he advocates for early care & education.

Dance Performances:

  • MUKULA Indian Dance GroupThe Mukula team, led by Swapna Srinivasan, a Bharathanatyam dancer from Madison, WI, has showcased their performances at various prestigious events including the international festival at Overture Center, Rosemont Theater for the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Sun prairie Multicultural Fair, and numerous others.
  • Guy ThorneGuy Thorne is a dynamic artist and educator whose career spans dance, choreography, culinary arts, and arts administration. Co-founder of FuturPointe Dance, Thorne’s choreographic work blends folklore, contemporary dance, and multimedia. This unique choreo-poem brings the rhythms of farming to life through movement and words, inviting the audience to connect with the earth’s cycles and the stories of those who cultivate it.
